Netiquette

Hey Everyone,

Netiquette. I only knew what that was like a few moments ago. Netiquette is short for Net Etiquette; we all know what etiquette is but for those who don’t it’s basically how to behave in your day to day life (wow that got deep).

Anyway here are some of my tips for you to have netiquette on the internet.

  • When someone uses Caps (Capital Letters) in their texts, emails or blogs (like this one) it usually means that they are yelling or speaking louder than normal. For example, if I type HEY GUUUUYYYYSSS this usually means that I am shouting, where as if I say ‘hey guys’ it usually implies that I am just talking normally.
  • Emoji’s. Be careful what emoji’s you use because (and yes I researched this) there are 2,666 emoji’s that exist. Each one representing a different feeling, meaning or emotion and each one can influence what people think that you are saying. For example, if one of your friends post a picture of something sad that has happened and you sent the laughing, crying emoji face, you may think that it is a crying face. Whereas the person that sees it as the laughing face, then they could take offence.

  • Swearing. Yes, I know we all do it at least once or twice in our lives, but putting it online is not the safest thing to do. Even if you think of it as a joke, other users may take offence to it and report or block you. It’s better if you replace it with symbols like this: @#%$* or just don’t type it at all.
  • Choose your words wisely. Whatever you type online stays there forever and even though you delete it, it will still be there. As I have told you guys before people can take things differently than how you meant for them to be.

  • Sarcasm. As I know someone who is the queen of sarcasm (I’m talking about you Kim❤), I also know that there are some people that don’t understand the difference between being sarcastic or serious. For example, if you comment on people’s post like “OMG SO UGLY” (haha caps) and you mean it in a sarcastic way, the people around you could see that differently.

  • Humor. Some people have different senses of humor it’s best not to tell others that joke as they make take offence to it and that would not end pretty.

I hope that you guys take into account all of these rules and if you use them on the internet then other users may complement your Netiquette on the Internet.

Game On review!

Hey everyone…

Today I’ll be reviewing the show ‘Game On’. Game On is directed by Nik Wansbrough and produced by Kate Betts. Game On is an Australian television show that teaches Pre-teens to teenagers about the importance of cyber safety.

Game On is based at a regular Australian high School with each of the main characters having a problem with Cyber safety. An example is a boy called Dean who stays up late every night playing video games with his friend Joel, this impacts on his school work, friendships and emotions. Another example is 2 best friends being drawn apart by a hacker, this includes posting nasty photos and comments.

If you read my last blog you would’ve seen that it was about the Positives and Negatives of the Internet. Well I want to do the positives and negatives of the TV show Game On

Positives

  • As I always want to start on a high note, the positives for this show is that it is informing students about cyber safety, they also have a professional taking to the character about what is safe on the internet.
  • Another positive is that it is relatable to our generation. Cyber safety is the number one problem in technology these days. Its great that they are teaching kids our age in the show how to be Cyber safe.

Negatives

  • The only negative that I could think of is that the show has very bad acting and that it is a little cringey. If the acting cold be improved then the show would’ve been perfect.

To finish off this review I would like to rate it. The rating I have given this show is 3/5 stars. If the acting was improved then I would’ve given it a higher rating!

I hope you guys enjoyed this blog!!

The Advantages and Disadvantages of the Internet

Hello Everyone…

So recently I was scrolling through the Internet and I realized how great it is. But then I though how dangerous it can be as well. I wanted to share with you guys (as the title says) The Advantages and Disadvantages of the Internet.

Now, because I always love to begin on a high note, I’ll start with the advantages. The Internet is a great source of entertainment. Whether you want to watch Netflix or scroll through YouTube so much that you reach the ‘dark side’, the internet will give you all of these choices to keep you entertained. You can also listen to music (Spotify is my personal fav) anywhere and everywhere you go as long as you have internet.

Another advantage is communication. Have you ever used Skype before? Have you got friends or family overseas that you want to talk to? Then look no further, the internet is allowing you to do these things. If you don’t have these particular communication devices (wow that sounded like mission impossible or something… Sorry) then you can use email or text, only sometimes the people your contacting can take something you say in a different way (I’ll take about that later).

The last advantage that I will be discussing is Education, and yes I know you guys will be saying “The internet doesn’t help your education, in fact it decreases it because it’s a distraction” (which is true but just hear me out). If you ever want to research a definition or topic, the internet is great because it gives you millions of resources in just seconds.

Now onto the negatives (and yes I know that these won’t put anyone off of the internet- nor should it but ya know).

The first negative that I will be discussing is isolation. As amazing as the internet is everyone wants to be on it all the time. People feel pressured that they need to be on the internet all the time to keep up with the trends. This is why the term ‘isolation’ is used.

Another negative is fraud. As trusting you think somebody might be on the internet (suppose there acting like a 17-year-old girl) when behind the screen they could be a 56 (wow that’s a specific number) year old man. Another example is that when you are online shopping and you see a photo of a dress. you buy it and the fabric is all weird, it doesn’t fit you and the pattern is completely different (The struggle is REAL).

The last negative point that I will be discussing is that there is nobody in charge. This means that people can post whatever they want and whenever they want and nobody can prevent it. An example is Wikipedia, anyone can change it and most of the time it’s all wrong.

I hope that you guys found this post useful
